Geometry

The branch of mathematics concerned with the properties and relations of points, lines, surfaces, solids, and higher dimensional analogs.

Shapes

Triangle

A polygon with three edges and three vertices. Triangles are one of the basic shapes in geometry and have many special properties.

Theory

A triangle is a closed figure with three sides and three angles. The sum of the interior angles of any triangle is 180°. Triangles can be classified by sides (equilateral, isosceles, scalene) or by angles (acute, right, obtuse). The Pythagorean theorem states that in a right triangle, the square of the length of the hypotenuse equals the sum of the squares of the other two sides (a² + b² = c²).

Applications

  • Structural engineering (truss design)
  • Computer graphics and 3D modeling
  • Navigation and GPS triangulation
  • Land surveying and terrain mapping
